Why do Schools use World Passwords?

Because safety and security are our top priority, your SchoolSpace world is configured so that only people who have a school SSO account and meet certain parameters (like grade or enrollment in a class) are able to enter the world. In some cases, schools also choose to use a world password.

You may want to use a password if:
  • You're creating an interactive learning journey where students find clues to figure out the password and portal to the next world.
  • Your school's SSO accounts have limited or no user attributes like grade or class enrollment. A guestlist can be used in addition to or in lieu of a password in this scenario.
  • You want to create a world for a subset of people (e.g., honor roll students, a group project team, club members, etc) but don't have user attributes to meet these parameters. A guestlist can be used in addition to or in lieu of a password in this scenario.

Managing a World Password

Moderators, Managers, and world Owners can add or remove a world password. These admin roles can also check the world password without entering the world.

To Check if a World has a Password:
  1. Open the SchoolSpace world URL in your browser.
  2. Before clicking 'Sign In' or 'Enter World,' in the left sidebar, click World Settings settings → Authentication.
  3. In the Password section under Require Password, check if the toggle is set to On or Off.

Settings - Toggle On Settings - Toggle Off
  4. If toggled On: The world does have an active password. The current password can be found in the text field under World Password.
  5. If toggled Off: The world does not have an active password (even if a password is entered in the text field under World Password). If needed, follow the steps below to enable a password.

Checking the world password is a quick and easy way for admins to confirm someone has the correct password, find the password if they've forgotten it and need to enter the world, if they need to share it with someone, or if they need to enable or disable a password. All without entering the world!

To Enable a Password:
  1. In the left sidebar, click World Settings settings → Authentication.
  2. In the Password section:
    • [If needed] Under World Password, type a password in the text field.
    • Under Require Password, toggle on Require Password. In order to toggle on, a password must first be entered in the World Password text field.
World Settings - Authentication - Password
  3. Everyone (including admins) will now need to use the password in order to enter the world. Make sure to share it with people who need it!

Passwords are case sensitive and can include spaces. Make sure to communicate the password clearly when sharing it with people who need access to the world!

To Disable a Password:
  1. In the left sidebar, click World Settings settings → Authentication.
  2. In the Password section under Require Password, toggle off Require Password.

World Settings - Authentication - Password Off
  3. Under World Password you can:
    • Leave the most recent password in the text field so you can easily toggle on Require Password to use it again without having to redistribute the password to people needing access.
    • Delete the most recent password from the text field. If you want to use a password again in the future, you will need to re-enter the previous password or type in a new password.

People will be able to enter without a password as long as 'Require Password' is toggled off.
