Troubleshooting: Video Chat

I don’t see any video tiles and the chat icon is missing in the left sidebar.
- The world is in Silent Mode. Admins can manually turn off silent mode.
I can’t unmute my microphone.
- Make sure microphone access is on in the world. You can check by clicking on the Users Menu and looking at the Overview tab. This will tell you what settings are on or off.
- It's possible a teacher disabled your individual microphone access. Admins can enable and disable microphone access for individual users.
- Make sure you're not in a Mute Zone. Your mic is automatically muted when your avatar is inside a Mute Zone. Walk to a new part of the world to see if a notification saying that you've left the Mute Zone appears in the bottom left of your screen. You'll be able to use your mic as normal when you leave a Mute Zone.
- Check your browser settings and make sure SchoolSpace.io has permission to access your microphone.
I can’t turn on my camera.
- Make sure camera access is on in the world. You can check by clicking on the Users Menu and looking at the Overview tab. This will tell you what settings are on or off.
- Admins can enable and disable camera access for individual users. Ask an admin if your camera access was disabled by sending a message in chat or reach out to your SchoolSpace administrator.
- Check your browser settings and make sure SchoolSpace.io has permission to access your camera.
I don’t see any video tiles, but I can hear people talking.
- You are most likely in low-bandwidth or audio only mode. You can change your video mode to 'Default Mode' in Video Settings in the left sidebar.
- If you're an admin, make sure you are not in builder mode.
I'm having trouble seeing and hearing people.
- Try moving your avatar closer to another avatar.
- Try refreshing the page and entering the world again.
- Check your internet speed. Switch to Low Bandwidth Mode if your internet speed is below our minimum speed recommendations.
People say they can't hear me.
- Make sure you are unmuted.
- Check your microphone input and switch to a different microphone if needed.
- Try refreshing the page and entering the world again.
People say my video tile is black or frozen.
- Try refreshing the page and entering the world again.
- Check your camera input and switch to a different camera if needed.
- Check your internet speed. Switch to Low Bandwidth Mode if your internet speed is below our minimum speed recommendations.
My friend has a cool background on their video! How do I get one?
- You can choose a from a selection of video backgrounds while you're inside the world or when you enter. SchoolSpace does not support uploading custom video backgrounds.
I want to use Broadcast.
- If you are a student, you can raise your hand and an admin can place you on Broadcast. If you don't see the Raise Hand
icon, this option may have been disabled by your school.
- If you are an admin, you can manually turn on Broadcast for yourself or another user.
I want to share my screen.
- Some worlds allow students to screenshare immediately or to send a screenshare request. Admins can approve screenshare requests.
- If you are an admin, you can always share your screen.
