Mute Zone Tips for Admins

What is a Mute Zone?

When you walk into a Mute Zone, your microphone is automatically muted and you will not be able to unmute. When you leave the Mute Zone, you'll be able to mute and unmute yourself again.

To Enter a Mute Zone:
  1. Move your avatar so it's within the asset set as a Mute Zone. You'll see a notification in the bottom left corner of your screen.
  2. Your mic will be muted automatically. If you try to unmute, you'll see a message explaining that your microphone is disabled because you are inside a Mute Zone.
  3. To leave the Mute Zone: Walk to a different part of the world. You'll be able use your mic as normal once you've left the Mute Zone.

Mute Zones for Admins

Editors, Designers, Managers, and world Owners can add Mute Zones. Any asset can be set up as a Mute Zone. However, we recommend using:

  • An asset large enough to cover the entire area where you want people to be muted.
  • A square or rectangular asset whenever possible.

Mute Zones are great for:
  • Quiet space for study or focus.
  • Preventing side conversations during assemblies, presentations, or lessons.
  • Creating a quiet entry experience when the spawn point (where your avatar lands when you first enter the world) is inside a Mute Zone.
  • Anywhere you want to automatically mute everyone.

To Add a Mute Zone:
  1.  Click Builder Mode builder in the left sidebar or press B on your keyboard to enter Builder Mode.
  2. Find the asset you want to set as a Mute Zone. You can:
  3. In the Asset Selection Menu on the right side of your screen, click Configuration → Zones.
  4. In the Zone Type dropdown, choose Mute Zone.
  5. To continue building: Click Clear Selection in the upper right of the Asset Selection Menu.
  6. To exit Builder Mode: Click Builder Mode builder or press B on your keyboard.
  7. To disable the Mute Zone: Follow steps 1 - 3. Then click the X icon on Private Zone in the Zone Type dropdown.

Mute Zone Tips

  • Add a Landmark Zone to the Mute Zone asset and give the Landmark a recognizable name (e.g., Silent Study Room, Meditation Space). This makes it easy for people to teleport to the Mute Zone from This World world in the left sidebar.
  • Place a sign or Custom Text asset near a Mute Zone so people can see where it is as they walk around.
