# New Features and Updates: 2025

## Additions and Improvements in SchoolSpace in 2025

### December 10, 2025: Available Worlds, User Sessions Updates

#### Update: Available Worlds Page 2.0

We've done an overhaul of the Available Worlds page to make it easier for students to enter worlds, find friends, and update their avatar. Use your dedicated school SSO link to view the updated Available Worlds page.

The new Available Worlds page has three sections: Avatar Selection, Friends Online, and Available Worlds.

Before you enter a world, choose your avatar in the upper right corner of the Available World page. Try out the new custom avatar (look for the blue icon)!

A new "Friends Online" section lets you quickly see which friends are currently online and where you can find them. 

You can now enter a world from the Available Worlds section with a single click. Select the “Enter World” button or a URL in the Friends Online section to skip the enter world modal and portal directly into the world.

 

Additional information has been added to each world card in the Available Worlds section to help students decide which world to enter.

World cards now show:

- The number of people currently in the world.
- An image of the entire world. In some cases, this will be the second image displayed. Click the arrows to scroll between images.
- The status of the world. If a world is closed, it will automatically be moved to the bottom of the Available Worlds section. If the world is set with an [Open / Close schedule](https://support.schoolspace.io/schedule-world-open-close?hsLang=en), the next scheduled open time and the full schedule will be shown.

#### Update: User Sessions

We've upgraded the User Sessions tab in Dashboard based on your feedback! 

World admins can now see users' email addresses in the new 'Email' column. 

- **Moderators** see users’ email domain (format: \*\*\*\*@example.com).
- **Managers and World Owners** see users’ full email addresses.

Are you a Moderator, Manager, or World Owner but don't see emails displayed as expected? Make sure you're looking at the correct world in Dashboard! You will only see partial or full email addresses for worlds where you have the appropriate role. Learn how to [view Users Sessions in Dashboard](https://support.schoolspace.io/analytics#export-user-sessions).

 

World admins can now load and export the full User Sessions table with no scrolling required.

- Admins can click a new “Load All Results” button to load any table rows that aren’t currently showing (and would have in the past required scrolling down the page to load).
- Exporting from this page will now include all results returned by the date and time range currently being filtered, regardless of if all of them are visible in the table.
- If you use the filter results field and don’t find any results, the new “Load All Results” button can be clicked from a message that lets you know there may be matching results not visible yet.

#### Update: Recording

We've made some updates to make the recording experience smoother when broadcasting or spotlighting.

- **If you are using Broadcast ![broadcast](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/broadcast.svg) and also Recording:** When your *recording ends,* you will *continue broadcasting.*
- **If you are using Spotlight ![spotlight](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/spotlight.svg) and also Recording:** When your *spotlight ends,* you will *continue recording.*

#### Update: Welcome Video

If you've added a Welcome Video to a world, the Welcome Video will now be shown before your avatar appears in the world. This means you will not connect to any other users or hear them talking before watching the Welcome Video. After you've watched the Welcome Video, click Continue to enter the world and connect with others!

Additionally, we've added a countdown timer that is shown during the first play through. If a viewer replays the video before entering the world, they will not see the countdown timer during replays.

#### Update: Broadcast Zones

When a user moves their avatar into a Broadcast Zone, they are placed on Broadcast. When Silent Mode is turned on in a world, Broadcast Zones will now be disabled for non-admin users like students. This means if a student is in a Broadcast Zone when Silent Mode is turned on, the student's Broadcast will automatically end.

### October 14, 2025: Overwrite Scene, Gaggle Integration

#### Update: Overwrite Scene

Saving changes to a scene just got easier! Designers, Managers, and Owners of a world can now use Overwrite Scene in the Actions column of the My Scenes table view to save a new version of an existing scene. Clicking Overwrite Scene will open a popup that includes the following lists of assets and links:

- What you’re replacing (i.e. what will no longer be in the scene if you overwrite it)
- What you’re replacing it with (i.e. what will be added to the scene if you overwrite it)
- Both of the above lists will show assets, media, and links that you’re removing or adding as a part of the overwrite process.

- When [adding a webpage as a clickable link](https://support.schoolspace.io/attach-links-forms-images-pdfs-or-text?hsLang=en#add-a-website-URL), we now show a warning when the link may not be embeddable as an iFrame. When this warning is shown, we recommend using the "Open in a new tab" option.
- You can now start [Spotlight](https://support.schoolspace.io/broadcast-spotlight-record-screenshare?hsLang=en#spotlight) without first being on [Broadcast - All](https://support.schoolspace.io/broadcast-spotlight-record-screenshare?hsLang=en#broadcast).
- While [Recording](https://support.schoolspace.io/broadcast-spotlight-record-screenshare?hsLang=en#record) and also on [Broadcast](https://support.schoolspace.io/broadcast-spotlight-record-screenshare?hsLang=en#broadcast), you can now end Recording and remain on Broadcast.

- When you enter a Private Zone while [Recording](https://support.schoolspace.io/broadcast-spotlight-record-screenshare?hsLang=en#record), your video is no longer broadcast to everyone in the Private Zone when capacity is set to more than 10 users. If you want your video to be visible to more than 10 users in a Private Zone regardless of how close you are to everyone, you'll need to turn on [Broadcast - Private Zone](https://support.schoolspace.io/broadcast-spotlight-record-screenshare?hsLang=en#broadcast).
- We have removed the "Drop Scene + Unique Name Suffix" option from the Scene Library preview. This option is still available in the Scene Library table view. [Learn more about dropping a scene](https://support.schoolspace.io/get-started-with-a-ready-to-use-scene?hsLang=en#add-scene).
- [Welcome Videos](https://support.schoolspace.io/new-features-and-updates-2025#welcome-video) are now limited to 2 minutes. You'll see an error if the video you upload is more than 2 minutes.

### September 26, 2025: Recording, Broadcast, Raise Hand, Delete World, Open an Email App, and more!

#### Update: Recording

Moderators can now start a recording any time, regardless of if they're already sharing their screen or using broadcast.

We've also updated the rules around who can access recordings in Dashboard and added a column that explains why you can see a recording.

The following users will now see the ![record](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/record.svg) Recordings option in the blue sidebar in Dashboard:

- The user who started a recording.
- The user who was recorded.
- The world owner.
- A manager in a world.

##### To Record your Video:

1. Moderators can start a recording from either: 
     - Your **video tile:** 
           - Hover over your video tile and click **Additional Options** ![ellipsis](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/ellipsis.svg)
           - Select ![record](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/record.svg) **Start Recording.**

2. When your video is being recorded, you will see a *new recording icon on your video tile,* in *the Self Controls section of the Overview tab* in the Users Menu, and *under your name in the Current Users tab* of the Users Menu.
3. To stop your recording, click the **Recording** ![record](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/record.svg) icon in the upper left corner of your video tile.

 

##### To Record another User's Video:

1. Moderators can start recording another user's video from either: 
     - The other user's **video tile:** 
           - Hover over their video tile and click **Start Recording ![record](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/record.svg).**
           - If you do not see the **Start Recording ![record](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/record.svg)** icon on their video tile, click **Additional Options** ![ellipsis](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/ellipsis.svg) and select ![record](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/record.svg) **Start Recording.**

#### Update: Broadcast

We've heard your feedback and made some adjustments to make using Broadcast more understandable!

- “Broadcast - Near” is now labeled “Broadcast - Private Zone."
- “Broadcast - Private Zone” will only be available when the user in located in a private zone.
- When a user's video is on “Broadcast - Private Zone”, their broadcast will automatically end if they leave the private zone.

We made these changes because Broadcast - Near is overwhelmingly used to facilitate multiple simultaneous broadcasts in separate private zones. These changes align the tool to it's actual use and reduce confusion in other scenarios.

 

#### Update: Raise Hand

Moderators can use the new “Raise Hand Access” setting in World Settings ![settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/settings.svg) to control access to the raise hand action and enable or disable sound.

##### To Enable or Disable Raise Hand Access:

1. In the left sidebar, click **World Settings ![settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/settings.svg) → General User Controls.** You may have to scroll down to see the General User Controls option.
2. In the *Communication* section under *Raise Hand Access,* choose: 
     - **Anyone in world - Sound off** to allow anyone to raise their hand silently. This option will *not* play a notification sound when a hand is raised.
     - **Anyone in world - Sound on** to allow anyone to raise their hand and include a sound notification. If a user raises their hand, the notification sound will play.
     - **Disabled for all** to remove the ability to raise a hand for all users. This hides the Raise Hand ![pan](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/pan.svg) icon.

 

##### To Spotlight a User from the Raised Hands Queue:

1. Open the [Users Menu](https://support.schoolspace.io/users-menu?hsLang=en) ![currentUsers](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/currentUsers.svg).
2. If hand(s) are raised, you will see the *Raised Hands Queue* section in the *Overview tab.*
3. Click **Pin** ![pin](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/pin.svg) next to the user's name and select ![spotlight](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/spotlight.svg) **Spotlight.**

 

#### New Feature: Delete World

World Owners can now delete their worlds from within Dashboard. More information on how to delete worlds you own will be published soon!

 

#### New Feature: Open an Email App

A new link type has been added that allows you to open an email app with the click of an asset! Use this to easily share your contact information with people in a world.

When a user clicks an asset that is set to open an email app, they will see a pop-up with your contact information and a button that will automatically open their device's default email application.

##### To Add a Link to Open an Email App:

1. Click **Builder Mode ![builder](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/builder.svg)** in the left sidebar then **click the asset in the world** to select.
2. In the Asset Selection menu on the right side of your browser, click **Configuration** → **Links.**
3. In the *Link Type* dropdown, choose **Open an email app.**
4. Fill in the following fields: 
     - **Email:** The email address you want to share.
     - **Subject Line:** Text you input here will be added automatically as a subject line in the email draft when the user clicks to open their email app.
     - **Description:** Add some context or a brief description of who you are.
5. To test: 
     - Click **Builder Mode** ![builder](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/builder.svg) in the left sidebar to exit Builder Mode.
     - Click the **asset you just edited** to include contact information.
     - You should see a *pop-up with your email, description, and a "Contact Now" button.* Clicking the "Contact Now" button will open an email draft with the Subject Line you added in step 4 in the default email app on your device.

 

#### Additional Updates

- Spotlight, Broadcast, and Teleport icons are disabled while in [Incognito Mode](https://support.schoolspace.io/new-features-and-updates-2025#incognito-mode).
- Lines showing who you are connected to while in [Incognito Mode](https://support.schoolspace.io/new-features-and-updates-2025#incognito-mode) have been updated for greater clarity.

#### New Feature: Welcome Video

[Managers](https://support.schoolspace.io/schoolspace-roles-and-permissions?hsLang=en) now have the ability to require all users to play a video before entering a world. Use this to share:

- School announcements.
- Community guidelines.
- Any video (max size 100MB) you want all users to view.

When the user plays the video for the first time, they **will not** be able to pause, enter full screen, move forward or backward in playback, or change playback speed. After they have watched the entire video, these options will be available and they will be able to **enter the world** by clicking the **Continue** button. Managers can also choose to include a **confirmation checkbox** that must be clicked before the Continue button.

##### To Upload a Welcome Video:

1. In the left sidebar, click **World Settings** ![settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/settings.svg) **→ World Details.** You will need to be a [Manager or World Owner](https://support.schoolspace.io/schoolspace-roles-and-permissions?hsLang=en) in order to upload a Welcome Video.
2. In the *Welcome Video* section, click **Choose File** and select the video you want to upload. The video must be a mp4 file with a maximum size of 100MB.

4. To remove an uploaded video, click **Remove Video** ![x](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/x.svg)**.**

##### What happens if a user has watched the entire video and comes back to the world another time?

- If the same video is still uploaded, the video will not play on subsequent entries.
- If a new video has been uploaded since the user's last entry, the user will have to watch the entire video before entering the world.

##### Is the Welcome Video available when using SchoolSpace on a mobile device?

- No, the Welcome Video is not currently supported on mobile devices.
- This feature will be available for users entering on a mobile device in a few weeks.

##### Do world admins have a button to skip the Welcome Video?

- No, not currently. Admins (like Moderators) will need to watch the video in order to enter.

##### What are the file requirements for a Welcome Video?

- The video must be a mp4 file with a maximum size of 100MB.

 

#### Update: Request Screenshare and Turn Off User's Screenshare

[Managers](https://support.schoolspace.io/schoolspace-roles-and-permissions?hsLang=en) can now [update Screenshare Access](https://support.schoolspace.io/screenshare-access?hsLang=en) to allow users (like students) the ability to request to share their screen.

When a user clicks **Request Screenshare,** they will see a **notification** letting them know they have successfully sent the request. Additionally, a **notification** will be sent to all Moderators and the user will be added to the **Screenshare Requests Queue** in the **Overview tab** of the **Users Menu ![currentUsers](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/currentUsers.svg)**. Admins (like Moderators) can always freely share their screen from their video tile or the Users Menu including when Screenshare Access is set to Request Access Only.

 

After approving or denying a screenshare request, the Moderator will see a **notification** confirming that the approval or denial was successful.

When a Moderator approves or denies the user's request to share their screen, the user will see a **notification** in the lower left corner of their screen. If the request has been approved, the user will have **two minutes to start** sharing their screen and can start the screenshare from the notification. If the request has been denied, the user will see a notification that includes the name of the Moderator who denied their request.

If the user does not share their screen before the countdown ends, they will lose the ability to screenshare.

 

Additionally, Moderators can now end another user's screenshare at any time by clicking **Turn Off Screen Share** ![screenshare](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/screenshare.svg) in the upper left corner of the user's **video tile.**

#### Update: Teleport a Group of Users

Moderators can now **teleport multiple users** from the **Current Users tab** in the **Users Menu** ![currentUsers](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/currentUsers.svg). Moderators can select multiple users by clicking the **checkbox** next to the user's name in the Current Users tab. When at least one checkbox is selected, the Moderator will see a **new menu** at the bottom of the Current Users tab. From this menu, Moderators can choose **Teleport to Me** ![teleportToMe](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/teleportToMe.svg) to bring all the users to the Moderator's location or **Teleport to a Landmark Zone** ![location](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/location.svg) to move all the users to a Landmark Zone. Additionally, Moderators can select themselves or another admin from the list to

#### New Feature: Incognito Mode

Users with the [Moderator, Manager or Owner](https://support.schoolspace.io/schoolspace-roles-and-permissions?hsLang=en) permission can use the new ![incognito](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/incognito.svg) **Incognito Mode** option in their Availability Status dropdown to discreetly observe other users without being seen.

##### To Use Incognito Mode:

1. On your *Video Tile*, click **your name.**
2. In the *Availability* dropdown, select ![incognito](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/incognito.svg) **Incognito Mode.**
3. While in Incognito Mode, the following occurs: 
     - Your avatar despawns (and is no longer visible).
     - Your video tile disappears for everyone (including self).
     - Other users will no longer connect with your video.
     - You can connect with others (video and audio) by clicking their avatar on the canvas.
     - You can still move by clicking the canvas.
     - You’re no longer visible in Current Users.
     - You can’t teleport and no one can teleport to you (via friends list, for example).
4. You will also see new items at the bottom of your screen: 
     - ![incognito](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/incognito.svg) **Incognito Mode On** indicates you are currently Incognito.
     - **Viewing: \[user's name\]** is the user whose avatar you clicked.

The [Users Menu](https://support.schoolspace.io/users-menu?hsLang=en) **![currentUsers](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/currentUsers.svg)** button can be found on the right side of your screen and it will always display the total number of users currently in the world.

Clicking this new floating button will open the Users drawer on the right side of your screen.

From the **Overview tab**, Moderators can update key communication settings, manage breakout groups, view the raise hand queue, use broadcast mode, and share their screen. All users can easily access controls like video on/off, mute/unmute, and raise hand as well as view key communications settings, the raise hand queue, and the breakout group they are currently in.

As a teacher, this means you can now multi-task and have both chat (on the left) and classroom tools (on the right) open.

All users can also click the redesigned **Current Users tab** and find the list of current users. Moderators can perform the following actions for each user: **Spotlight**, **Audio Settings**, **Video Settings**, **Broadcast**, **Recording**, **Teleport**, and **Safety actions**. Previously, Spotlight, Video Settings, and Audio Settings were only accessible on video tiles, which meant that you had to be connected to someone to use them.

#### Update: Reports Drawer

Moderators can view world reports (for the world they’re in) from the last 72 hours using the Reports drawer (Accessed from **This World ![world](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/world.svg) → Reports**).

The following world reports will show in this drawer:

- **User Reports** (e.g. Eoin reported Michael)
- **Message Reports** (e.g. Eoin reported a Direct Message that Michael sent)
- **Gaggle Reports** (e.g. Gaggle reported a message that Michael sent).

Moderators can click each report to expand it and view additional details, like the **reason**, **additional information**, **message history link** (only applicable to message reports) and **Dashboard link** to the report detail view.

Reports about messages in Dashboard or from other worlds **will not** show in this drawer.

#### Update: In-World Direct Messaging Controls

[Direct Messaging can now be turned on or off](https://support.schoolspace.io/control-messaging?hsLang=en) on a per world basis from inside the world.

 

##### To Enable or Disable Direct Messaging:

1. Enter the SchoolSpace world where you would like to make the change.
2. In the left sidebar, click **World Settings ![settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/Latest%20UI%20Icons%20-%202025/settings.svg) → Messaging.**
3. In the *Direct Messages* section: 
     - **Toggle on** to enable Direct Messaging and allow users to send and receive Direct Messages while in the world.
     - **Toggle off** to disable Direct Messaging and prevent users from accessing Direct Messaging while in the world.
