### What is Unlockables?

Unlockables lets admins create reward-based challenges where students earn emotes, avatar accessories, or badges by answering questions. Each reward is set up as a **drop**, a challenge with its own question, its own reward, and an optional start and end date, so different rewards can become available at different times of the school year. Admins can edit that schedule, add their own drops, and check engagement data to see how many students are attempting and completing each challenge. Every copy of Unlockables ships with Topia’s default schedule of all-new rewards already loaded, with a fresh drop every couple of weeks, so it’s ready to go the moment you add it to your world.

Unlockables was previously called the Unlock App. Any challenge you set up before the update keeps working exactly as it did. It simply becomes an always-available drop with no dates.

 

### What’s Coming: The 2026–27 Drop Schedule

Unlockables comes preloaded with a full schedule of all-new rewards, so there’s something new to earn every couple of weeks. Each drop is live between its start and end dates, and anything marked always available stays open all year. Here’s what’s dropping through January 2027:

- Always available: Apple emote · Back to School Outfit
- Oct 1–31, 2026: Acorn emote
- Oct 1 – Nov 30, 2026: Fall Explorer badge
- Oct 12–31, 2026: Dino Costume (Dino Top, Dino Legs, and Dino Hood)

### Using Unlockables

Everyone can use Unlockables! When you open the app, you'll see one scrolling page with everything in it:

- **Upcoming**: a preview of the next rewards coming soon. Some are shown as a mystery.
- **Recent Drops**: the last few challenges that have ended, so you can see what you earned and what you missed.
- **Current challenges**: everything you can unlock right now.
- **Unlocked this session**: the rewards you've just earned in this visit.

Challenges with an end date show an **Ends \[date\]** label, so you know how long you have. Challenges with no end date show an **Always available** label and stay open.

 

##### To Unlock a Reward:

1. Click the **Unlockables asset** to open the app drawer.

2. Find a challenge you want to try and **read the question**.
3. **Enter your answer** using the answer options shown. This may be typing a response, choosing one option, or choosing several.
4. Click the **Unlock** button to see if your answer was correct!

5. When you answer correctly, the card flips over to show the reward you've earned.

6. **Scroll up to Upcoming** to see what's coming next and when it lands.

Once you've unlocked a reward, it's yours to keep, even after the challenge ends. Challenges you've already completed won't show up again on your next visit.

 

##### To See What You've Missed:

1. Click the **Unlockables asset**.
2. Look at the **Recent Drops** row near the top of the page. It shows the last few challenges that have ended.
3. **Full color** means you unlocked it. **Greyed out** means you missed it; hover over a greyed-out item to see what it was.

A challenge that has ended can't be completed anymore. If you missed one, ask your teacher. They can offer the same reward again as a new challenge.

Some schools leave hints around the world that you can use to figure out the correct answer. If you don't know what to look for, ask for help in the 'Everyone in World' chat channel or find an admin who can help you.

### Unlockables for Admins

[Editors, Designers, Managers, or world Owners](https://support.schoolspace.io/schoolspace-roles-and-permissions?hsLang=en) can add Unlockables to a world, build the drop schedule, and choose the rewards students earn.

##### To Add Unlockables:

1. Click **Builder Mode** in the left sidebar or **press B on your keyboard** to enter Builder Mode.
2. Click **Scenes**.
3. Search for 'Unlockables' in the **Filter Results** search bar.
4. Hover over the thumbnail image and click **Drop Scene**.
5. **Click an area in the world** to drop Unlockables in that location.

Unlockables arrives with a full schedule of all-new drops already set up, so students can start earning rewards right away. You can leave the schedule as it is, edit it, or replace it with your own drops. See What’s Coming above for everything on the schedule.

 

##### To Open the Scheduled Drops List:

1. Click the **Unlockables asset**. A page will open on the left side of your screen.
2. Click the ![App - Settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/App%20-%20Settings.svg) **Settings icon** in the upper left of this page.
3. The **Scheduled drops** list opens, showing every drop in this world. Each row shows the reward, its dates, the question type, and a status label: **Live**, **Upcoming**, **Ended**, or **Always on**, along with the number of students who have unlocked it. Always-available drops are listed first, followed by the rest in date order.

This schedule belongs to this Unlockables instance only. Editing it won't affect other instances of Unlockables in this world or other worlds.

 

##### To Create a Drop:

1. Click the **Unlockables asset**. A page will open on the left side of your screen.
2. Click the ![App - Settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/App%20-%20Settings.svg) **Settings icon** in the upper left of this page.
3. From the Scheduled drops list, scroll down to the bottom and click **+ Add drop**.

4. Under **Unlock window**, choose when the challenge is available: 
     - Leave **Always available (no dates)** checked to keep the challenge open with no end date.
     - Uncheck it to set a **start date** and **end date**. The challenge appears for students on the start date and closes on the end date.

5. Check **Show in upcoming challenges** if you want students to see this drop before it goes live, then choose **Show the item** to reveal the reward or **Mystery** to show only the reward type and dates.

6. Under **Unlock Type**, choose **Emote**, **Avatar Accessory**, or **Badge** as the reward. 
     - **If you select Emote:** choose the emote you want students to unlock from the dropdown menu.

     - **If you select Avatar Accessory:** first choose an Avatar Accessory Pack, then select the individual accessories students can unlock by checking the boxes next to each item.

     - **If you select Badge:** choose one badge from the dropdown menu. A preview appears once it's selected.

7. Add the **Challenge Name**.
8. In the **Question/Description** field, enter the challenge question or prompt for this drop.

9. In the **Question Type** field, choose between: 
     - **Open Response**: any response entered by the student will unlock the reward.
     - **Multiple Choice**: students must select the correct answer from a list of options.
     - **Text Input**: students must type the correct answer into the response field (1–2 words recommended, answers are not case sensitive).
     - **All That Apply**: students must select all correct answers from the available choices.

10. In the **Password/Answer** field, enter the correct answer.

11. Click **Save Configuration** to return to the Scheduled drops list.

Every drop carries its own question and answer, so an October challenge can ask something completely different from a November one. You can include multiple accessories from the same pack in a single drop, for example, one challenge could unlock both a hat and a shirt.

##### To Edit or Reuse a Drop:

1. Click the **Unlockables asset**. A page will open on the left side of your screen.
2. Click the ![App - Settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/App%20-%20Settings.svg) **Settings icon** in the upper left of this page.
3. From the Scheduled drops list, **click the row** for the drop you want to change.
4. **Update any field** and click **Save Configuration**.
5. To reuse a drop's setup, click **Duplicate**. A copy opens with the same reward, question, and settings, ready for you to give it new dates.

6. To check your work, click **Preview** to see the drop exactly as a student will see it during its window.

Editing a live drop never takes a reward away from a student who has already unlocked it.

 

##### To View Unlock Engagement Analytics:

1. Click the **Unlockables asset**. A page will open on the left side of your screen.
2. Click the ![App - Settings](https://support.schoolspace.io/hubfs/App%20-%20Settings.svg) **Settings icon** in the upper left of this page.
3. **Click the drop** you want data for.
4. Scroll down and click **Engagement** to see attempts and successful unlocks for that drop.

### Tips for Unlockables

- **Start with the default schedule.** Unlockables already comes loaded with a year of all-new emotes, accessories, and badges, so you can drop it in and let it run. Add your own drops on top whenever you like.
- **Let the calendar do the work.** Schedule a season's worth of drops in one sitting, and students will have something new to find without you touching the app again.
- **Keep one challenge always available.** A drop with no dates gives students something to earn between scheduled drops, especially if they're visiting for the first time.
- **Use Mystery to build anticipation.** Tagging a drop as a mystery shows students that something is coming without giving away what it is.
- **Match the question to the reward.** A fall emote paired with a question about a class lesson makes the reward feel earned.
- **Use Open Response for participation.** Any answer unlocks the reward, which makes it a good fit for reflection prompts where there's no single right answer.
- **Place it somewhere worth walking to.** Tucking Unlockables into a corner of your world gives students a reason to explore.
- **Re-offer a popular reward.** If a lot of students missed a drop, create a new drop with the same reward and fresh dates.
- **Check your engagement data.** If very few students are unlocking, the question may be harder than you expected.
