What is Study Stacks?

Study Stacks is a flash card app for studying any subject in your world. Teachers and admins can publish Class decks that everyone in the current world can study, and every student can build their own private My decks for whatever they're working on.

Study Stacks is an activity where each student studies at their own pace, in their own session. Cards are chosen for you based on how well you knew them last time, so the ones you keep missing come back around more often. Along the way you'll build daily study streaks and earn badges.

‌Study Stacks is perfect for:

• Vocabulary, spelling, and world language practice
• Reviewing before a quiz, test, or presentation
• Math facts, formulas, dates, and definitions
• Independent study time, tutoring sessions, and study clubs

Using Study Stacks

Everyone can use Study Stacks! When you open the app you'll land in the Library, where all of your decks live in one place:

• Class decks: decks published by your teachers and school admins. Everyone in your school sees the same Class decks.
• My decks: decks you made yourself. These are private to you, and they follow you into every world in your school, so a deck you build in one world is still there in another.
  
  

To Study a Deck:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click a deck in the Library under Class decks or My decks. If you don’t see any available decks, it means no decks have been created yet
   
   
3. Review the deck details at the top of the window where you can see the deck name, how many cards it has, and its difficulty.
4. Choose a study mode:
• Flip: read the front of the card, try to remember the answer, then tap the card to flip it and rate yourself: Got it, Almost, or Missed.
• Quiz: pick the right answer from up to four multiple choice options. If you choose wrong, the correct answer is revealed so you still learn the card.
• Sprint: a 60-second timed challenge in the same multiple choice format. Answer as many cards as you can before the timer runs out!
  
  
5. Your session starts and you can work through your cards.
6. Review your results on the end-of-session screen, then click Study Again to pick another mode for the same deck, or return to the Library.
   
   

To Create Your Own Deck:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click + Create a new deck in the Library.
   
   
3. Name your deck and fill in the deck details.
   
   
4. Click Next to move to the next page.
5. There are 2 ways to add cards to your deck:
   1. Click Add Card, then fill in the front of the card (text, an image link, or both), the back of the card, and an optional hint. Repeat for each card you want to add. Use the up and down arrows on a card to change the order.
      
      
   2. Click Import Cards — helpful for big decks.
      
      
      • Click the Copy template button and edit it in a text editor or Spreadsheet app like Excel or Google Sheets.
      • Upload your csv or tsv file, or paste the list in the text box.
      • Click Import cards.

      • Choose whether to add it to the existing card/s or replace all and click Import cards again.

6. Click Save. Your new deck appears under My decks, ready to study.

To Edit or Delete Your Deck:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click your deck under My decks in the Library.
3. Click the Edit icon to update title, subject, difficulty and add, change, reorder, or remove cards, then click Save.
   
   
4. Click the Delete icon to remove the deck instead. Click Yes to confirm.
   
   

Check your Progress and Badges:

Study Stacks keeps track of everything you study. Use the Progress and Badges tabs at the top of the app drawer to see how you're doing.

To Check Your Progress:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click the Progress tab in the app drawer.
   
   
3. Review your study totals:
   • Current streak: how many days in a row you've studied.
   • Longest streak: your personal best.
   • Cards studied: every card you've worked through.
   • Sessions completed: how many study sessions you've finished.

To View Your Badges:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click the Badges tab in the app drawer.
   
   
3. The badges in full color are the ones you've already earned while grayed-out badges are still waiting for you!
4. Hover over any badge to see what it's for, or what you need to do to earn it.

Tips for Study Stacks

• Study a little every day! Short daily sessions build your streak and help cards stick better than one long cram session.
• Rate yourself honestly. Study Stacks uses your Got it / Almost / Missed ratings to decide which cards to show you next. Marking a card as "Got it" when you guessed means you'll see it less often than you should.
• Add a hint to tricky cards. A short nudge is often enough to help you recall the answer on your own.
• Use images on the front of a card. Great for maps, diagrams, artwork, lab equipment, and vocabulary in world language classes.
• Warm up with Flip, then test yourself with Quiz. Save Sprint for when you already know the deck well and want a challenge.
• Keep an eye out for badges. You'll get a notification the moment you earn one.

Study Stacks for Admins

Editors, Designers, Managers, or world Owners can add the Study Stacks app to a world. Admins can also create and publish Class decks for everyone in the world.

To Add Study Stacks:

1. Enter Builder Mode: Click Builder Mode in the left sidebar or press B on your keyboard.
2. Click Scenes in the left sidebar.
3. Search for 'Study Stacks' in the Filter Results search bar.
4. Hover over the thumbnail image and click Drop Scene.
5. Click an area in the world to drop Study Stacks in that location.

To Create a Class Deck:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click + Create a new deck in the Library.
   
   
3. Name your deck and fill in the deck details.
4. Under Visibility, click to check Make available to all students (Class Deck).
   
   
5. Click to select at least one grade level or check “All grades”.
   
   
6. Click Next and add cards to the deck the same way as students would.
7. Click Publish and it will now appear under Class decks for everyone in the world. Clicking Save will save it as a draft only and will not be visible to students until you publish.

To View Student Results for a Class Deck:

1. Click Study Stacks asset to open the app.
2. Click a deck under Class decks.
3. Click the View Analytics icon at the top of the deck window.
4. Review the results in the new browser tab that opens, showing how each student is doing with the deck.
5. Print or save the page from your browser if you want a copy for your records.
