Making friends in a virtual school can feel tricky. In SchoolSpace it’s easy to connect with classmates, peers from your extracurriculars, or new people who share your interests! With just a few clicks, you can add friends, see when they’re online, send messages, or hang out over video chat.

Adding Friends in SchoolSpace

There are a few different ways to add someone as a friend: over video chat, from the Current Users tab, or by searching for them by username.

What Happens after I've Sent a Friend Request?

Once you send the friend request to someone:

• They will be sent a notification letting them know you would like to be their friend.
• If they click Accept, then hurray, you've got a friend! 
• Click Social Hub in the left sidebar and you will see them listed under Friends.

 

To Add a Friend over Video Chat:

1. Walk close enough to connect by video. 
2. Click the other person's name on their video tile.
3. Select  Add Friend from the dropdown.
   
   
   

 

To Add a Friend from Current Users:

1. Click Users Menu button on the right side of your screen.
   
   
   
2. Select the Current Users tab to open the Current Users list.
   
   
   
3. Click the name of the person you’d like to friend, then select Add Friend.
   
   
   

 

To Add a Friend by Username:

1. From inside a world, click My Account at the top of the left sidebar. At the bottom of the My Account page, click the View Dashboard button. This will open the Dashboard in a new tab.
   Note: You may need to scroll down to see the View Dashboard button.
2. In Dashboard, click Social Hub on the left side of your screen. Then, on the right side of your screen, click the Add Friend button.
   
   
   
3. Enter the person's username and click Add Friend.

Find New Friends with Shared Interests

If you want to add a friend, but aren’t sure who to connect with, SchoolSpace can help you find classmates who like the same things you do! Your profile helps others decide whether to say hi or send a friend request. You can choose a profile image, customize your profile with your favorite colors, select your interests, and set your Mood, Availability and Friendship Mode. Then use Find New Friends to see people who share your interests!

 

To Use Find New Friends:

1. Click Social Hub in the left sidebar.
2. Select Find New Friends. 
3. Use the Next Profile or Back buttons at the bottom to scroll through profiles of people currently in the world who also share your interests.
4. To send a friend request, click the three dots icon and select Add Friend.
   
   
   
5. You can also click: 
   • Message button to send the person a Direct Message.
   • Teleport to button to move your avatar to the person's current location.

Accepting Friend Requests

When someone sends you a friend request, you’ll get a small notification on the bottom left corner of your screen. Just click Accept to become friends! You can also accept friend requests from Social Hub.

 

To Accept or Decline a Friend Request:

1. Click Social Hub in the left sidebar. A red dot notification will be shown on the Social Hub icon when you have friend requests.
2. In the Friend Requests section, click the Accept or Decline button.
3. To see a list of all your current friend requests, click View All. This will open Dashboard in a new tab. From here you can also accept or decline friend requests.

See Who’s Online and Join Them

Want to hang out with a friend who’s already in a SchoolSpace world? From inside a world, you can also see a list of everyone currently with you in the world or teleport directly to someone from the Current Users tab of the Users Menu. Once you've found your friend, try sending a Follow request and exploring together!

 

To View or Teleport to Current Users:

1. Click Users Menu button on the right side of your screen.
   
   
2. Select the Current Users tab to open the Current Users list.
   
   
   
3. To find a specific person, scroll the list, type their name in  Filter, or click the dropdown to view people in different Landmark Zones.
4. Click Teleport  under a person's name to instantly move to that user's location.
   
   
   

 

If you have a dedicated school SSO link, use that link to view the Available Worlds page and see which of your friends are currently online. You and your friend will both need to share your location in order to see each other in the Available Worlds page.

 

To Share or Hide your Location:

1. Click My Account at the top of the left sidebar.
2. In the Account Settings section under Share Location with Friends:
   • Toggle on to allow friends to see the world you're currently in from the Available Worlds page. 
   • Toggle off to hide your location.

Removing a Friend

Changed your mind or need to clean up your list? No problem. 

 

To Remove a Friend:

1. Click Social Hub in the left sidebar.
2. In the Friends section, find the person by scrolling through the list or by typing their name in  Filter Friends.
3. Click on the person's name and select  Remove Friend.
   
   
   
4. You can also remove a friend by clicking their name in the Current Users tab or their name on their video tile, then select  Remove Friend.
